Michael John Bryant is what my parents called me, possibly after the doctors two sons, Michael and John Seager. I don’t actually know if it was Dr. Seager that delivered me, but you catch my drift. It’s taken almost 4 decades, 5 EP’s, 5 albums, 2 surf film soundtracks, 2 original theatre shows, marriage/divorce, 3 incredible kids, a deep intrigue in substances and their opposite and some terrific and tragic relationships but finally I got to use my whole name. I am Michael John Bryant and I am a prolific and brilliant writer (Julia Cameron made me say that). And there’s a little part of all that in everything I do……

“How do you find the joy in music?”….. this question sets the scene for the gig-cum-theatre show ‘The Magic Of The Mundane’, a whole new way to launch the studio albums “Tender A” & “Hooks B” by MT WARNING. With a cast of two (the show features the now MT WARNING staple and star in her own right Elodie Crowe) and a cello (played by Tara Lee Byrne) the audience is transported into the studio and the mind of an artist playing, romancing and feuding with the muse. Premiering in August 2023 to rave reviews, ‘The Magic Of The Mundane’ is gearing up to tour nationally in 2024….
Set in a small town undergoing enormous change, New Blood explores the ebbs and flows of relationships, showcasing the humanity and the hilarity of small towns and the quirks that are instantly recognisable.
Mikey was a co-creator and performer on New Blood The Musical (alongside Melia Noughton, Joel Cooper, Anouska Gammon and Elodie Crowe) which won ‘Most Outstanding New Work’ at the Gold Palm Theatre Awards in 2023, had two sold out seasons (Newrybar Hall 2022, Byron Theatre 2023) and two sell out shows at Adelaide Fringe 2023.
MT WARNING began in 2012 when Michael John Bryant and Taylor Steele setup the ultimate beachside recording studio on Belongil Beach, Bundjalung Country. Inviting bands, artists, surfers and skaters to express themselves at ‘La Casa’ (as it was called). Between guests the two would experiment with stories and sound and songs. Taylor produced the debut album ‘Midnight Set’ with Mikey playing and recording the instrumentation. The song ‘Forward Miles’ was premiered on BBC1’s Zane Lowe show, the pair listening to it whilst on tour in London standing in Brick Lane. The song ‘Sinking Sun’ was featured on the Corona classic ad ‘On Mexico Time’ and the band went on to tour the US, UK, Eur and at home in Australia supporting bands like Edwarde Sharpe and The Magnetic Zeros, The Temper Trap, The Rubens, Gang Of Youths and playing festivals including SXSW (USA), Splendour In The Grass (AUS), Reepherbahn Festival (GER) and St Jerome’s Laneway Festival.
Under the MT WARNING moniker, Mikey went on to record the EP “Petrified Heart” (2015) the albums “Consoloations” (2020) “Tender A” (2022) & “Hooks B) 2023.
After leaving the bustle of NAARM in the early noughties, Mikey found a shed in the hills on Bundjalung Country to raise kids, chickens and make music as M. Jack Bee. A lilting lo-fi folk meets indie hue the EP’s “I Don’t Want To Fight You” and “In Loops” were toured with films (Two Weeks), folk festivals (Mullum Music Festival) and pub tours alike.
Longtime compadre and collaborater Vinnie LaDuce and Mikey started Brave Gulf as the electronic music world seemed void of any lead guitarists. They decided they would both play lead guitar and a cult like summer of warehouse and backroom pub shows ignited a sweaty storm. There are still unreleased tracks to this outfits name, time will tell if the world is ready for more everything…
